Description

Vocabulary fun! This free Phobias Vocabulary Activity for Science includes 12 pairs of Phobia Cards and a matching worksheet. The phobia name is written in all caps and the definition is written in lowercase with an image.

How to Play:

  1. Copy the card pages onto card stock and/or laminate copies.
  2. Distribute one card face down to each student. Up to 24 students can play at once, but you may have to play, too, if you have an odd number of students!
  3. Once every student has a card, you say, “Go!” and students turn their card over, get up, and try to find their partner. For example, the student with the “ACROPHOBIA” card will try to find the student with the “Fear of Heights” card.
  4. Once students think they have found the correct partner, they stand together at the front of the room (or wherever you tell them). I usually have my students form a circle around the room.
  5. When everyone is finished, go around the room and have students read their cards.
  6. Collect the cards, mix them up, and do it again!

Not in the mood to have students running all over the room? Make a few copies of the cards and let them play a concentration memory game in groups. Or let the groups race to see who can match their cards up fastest. Have fun!
