Health Occupations Stations are engaging activities for high school Anatomy and Physiology or Health Occupations classes. This set consists of 7 stations that students rotate through as they learn about various aspects of health occupations, common diseases, treatments, procedures, and other facts about the healthcare system in the U.S.

Here are some highlights of this Introduction to Health Occupations Stations activity:

  • The topics are suitable for high school Anatomy and Physiology students or Health Occupations students.
  • Each station will take approximately 5-7 minutes for students to complete.
  • Colorful station cards and icons will help students quickly find their way through the stations and their place on the handout.
  • Discussion and extension ideas are included for teachers who would like to go into more depth.
  • An editable Quiz in two versions is also included.

What Stations are Included?

  1. Medical Experts – Students will learn about the education requirements of becoming a doctor, general duties and working conditions, and salary of a variety of physician specialties.
  2. Expedition into Allied Health Careers – This station will teach students about the allied health professions and provide them with an opportunity to learn about training programs in their area.
  3. Explore other Careers in Healthcare – This station explores different levels of nursing, working conditions, education requirements, and salaries.
  4. Execute a Procedure – Students will learn the importance of body temperature as a vital sign and how to operate three different types of thermometers.
  5. Expand your Vocabulary – Students will explore key terms associated with disease.
  6. Extraordinary Connections – At this station, students will discover the connections between family health history and increased risk of some diseases.
  7. Patient Example – This station provides an opportunity for students to follow the real-life story of Michaelyn and her journey through the healthcare system after a serious accident.

Teacher Prep and Set-Up:

  • Make copies of the student handout for each student.
  • Print out the station information and instruction pages for each station.
  • Print out and prepare the station table tents in color or black and white. These will work with all Health Occupation Stations activities, so you only have to do this once.

  • On the day of the activity, divide students into 7 groups and let them go!
